I got mine to work last night. As was posted above, make sure the device is listed in Device Manager.
Even if it is not 'recognized', the manager should still populate the icon and by right clicking on it give you the opportunity to 'Update Driver'. If you do not get anything from your OS (I'm only assuming you are using Windows) then you need to make sure that you don't have a hardware issue. If nothing else, if your clock speed is correct (48Mhz), your PC will attempt to communicate with it. The last little stumbling block I had was selecting the correct driver. There are so many USB project folders and drivers in the library. Be sure that you are selecting the same driver as the project you are building.
Some of the drivers are for the demonstration boards. I have built my own board and used the generic project and driver. The Host file was successfully run through Visual Studio and the Analog input on A0, with a potentiometer, gave the expected results on screen. HI Guys, Sorry to necro a thread but it seems more relevant that starting a new one.
I have been following a guide on how to make a USB IR receiver using a PIC18F2455 chip from this link So I have built the HW/ flashed it with the appropriate code IRMANclone.hex I also have the project source as well. I plug the device in and It shows up in device manager as 'unknown device' I have tried to install the driver that come with the package and the one that was suggested from here and finally the one suggested by Dan1138 above. But no matter what driver try to install I get the below message So I guess I need to update the USB stack in the project to the latest version 2.9a? But the question is how do I do this or is there something more obvious that im missing. Usbdescriptors.c - add another string descriptor with a serial number (anything, I used '1','1','1','1'), add it to the string descriptors array, set the serial number string index in the device descriptor to the added item (index) in the string descriptor array usbconfig.h- add 1 to the USBNUMSTRINGDESCRIPTORS defined number, as 1 more string was added I also set my vid/pid to a number in mdmcpq.inf so Windows will install without asking for a driver (I picked a compaq usb external modem).
Usb To Serial Mac
Not sure if necessary, but I did it before plugging in my device again after re-programming- open a command prompt (as administrator, if Win7/Vista) type these two commands- set devmgrshownonpresentdevices=1 start devmgmt.msc device manager will open, in the menu, set to view hidden devices uninstall all the duplicate com ports previously used by your device (I had 3 compaq external usb modems, you will probably need to look under com ports) plug in device, may need to provide driver/inf again (don't know), test in different ports, should show as same com port. Cvm usbdescriptors.c - add another string descriptor with a serial number (anything, I used '1','1','1','1'), add it to the string descriptors array, set the serial number string index in the device descriptor to the added item (index) in the string descriptor array usbconfig.h- add 1 to the USBNUMSTRINGDESCRIPTORS defined number, as 1 more string was added I also set my vid/pid to a number in mdmcpq.inf so Windows will install without asking for a driver (I picked a compaq usb external modem).
