ℹTo dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM). This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether. Screen flickering / PWM not detected In comparison: 52% of all tested devices do not use PWM to dim the display.

If PWM was detected, an average of 8943 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz was measured. The ZenBook is powered by an Kaby Lake R quad-core processor. The is an ultra-low voltage (ULV) CPU that has a 15 W thermal design power (TDP) and supports Hyperthreading. Hyperthreading allows two threads to be processed per core, meaning that the has a total of eight threads across its four cores.

The CPU has a base clock of 1.8 GHz that with Turbo Boost can be temporarily increased up to 4 GHz. When running multi-thread Cinebench benchmarks the initially runs at between 3 and 3.3 GHz.

After a few seconds this then drops to between 2.6 and 2.8 GHz. In single-thread tests, the processor operates at speeds between 3.3 and 4 GHz.

Bear in mind that this is only true when the ZenBook is charging. If on battery, CPU speeds will drop to between 1.5 and 1.9 GHz for single-thread tests with speeds for multi-thread tests dropping to between 1.5 and 2.7 GHz. The ZenBook comes with an. The mid-range graphics card is the mobile version of the. The GPU supports DirectX 12 and operates at a base clock of 937 MHz, which can be boosted up to 1,607 MHz.

It also has 2,048 MB of GDDR5 memory. 3DMark benchmark scores are disappointing, with the ZenBook being well behind the competition. For example, the achieves almost a twelve percent higher maximum clock speed of 1,798 MHz and approximately a fifty-eight percent higher base clock speed of 1,469 MHz. ASUS has factory underclocked the to avoid it overheating as there is not enough space in the ZenBook’s case to adequately cool it at full speed. Likewise, the and the fail to take advantage of the GeForce MX150’s full performance.

Therefore, limiting graphics performance due to inadequate cooling is not a ZenBook exclusive issue. During our Prime95 and FurMark one-hour stress tests, the ZenBook performed equally well on charge as it did on battery. Processor speeds vary between 1.2 and 2.7 GHZ for the first ten minutes before dropping to and remaining at between 800 and 900 MHz. This throttling is not replicated with the graphics card, which started the stress tests at between 600 and 800 MHz, before stabilizing at 800 MHz. Notably, our test device stayed relatively cool during our stress tests, with surface temperatures remaining below 40 °C (104 °F). The ZenBook has a runtime of eight hours and fifty-eight minutes in our practical Wi-Fi test when set at 150 cd/m². During this test we simulate the effective load created by loading websites. Similarly, the ZenBook lasts eight hours and fifty-four minutes in our video test.

For this test we play the short film Big Buck Bunny on a continuous loop with H.264 encoding at a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080. The Wi-Fi modules are disabled and the brightness is set to 150 cd/m². While the battery life is good, it lags behind its. We subsequently found out that our test device has a battery wear rate of 7.4 percent, which goes some way toward explaining the battery time differences between the two ZenBook models. The ASUS ZenBook 13 scores highly by fitting both a powerful CPU and GPU into a compact chassis. This comes at a cost though, as the case dimensions precluded ASUS from including a cooling system that could adequately cool the device.

Among other things, ASUS have compromised on GPU performance to circumvent this cooling issue. Despite this, the ZenBook is a still a good all-rounder that plays games comfortably. Considering the compact design, the ZenBook remains relatively cool under load, which is a positive. The fan is usually quiet when the device is idling, but it is clearly audible when the device starts to be tested. Users who are looking for a quiet and powerful device would therefore probably be unhappy with the ZenBook. Given the ZenBook’s price, we would have expected ASUS to include an NVMe drive rather than the slower SATA III drive that comes with the ZenBook. This would have been possible too, as ASUS’ website says that the M.2-2280 slot supports both NVMe and SATA III.

The IPS display is respectable with decent viewing angels, good contrast and adequate brightness. Moreover, we liked the backlit keyboard and were impressed by the long battery life. The I/O will not blow anyone away. It would have been good had ASUS included a Thunderbolt 3 port rather than the USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type C port. Doing so would have allowed the ZenBook to be charged by USB C, which would certainly have increased the ZenBook’s appeal and further future proofed it.

Pros: I just thought I would add to my update on this board. It has been running flawlessly with all functions including WiFi and Bluetooth. I use duel windows boot with two hard drives and windows 7 pro and Windows 8.1. The whole system stay stable with either overclocking or AI Suite 3. With little knowledge of a advanced board like this one, I was able to get everything working the way it should.

Believe me it is fast. Cons: I too had to use Asus Technical to answer a few questions that most probably is in their manual, but I could not find. The Techs on e-mail where responsive, but even with my little knowledge, I found them just going by scripts. Ie check memory and re-install drivers. But non of these items had anything to do with the question. Too bad, because they could put some people with knowledge of their motherboards in Tech service.

This is the reason for 4 eggs. Would have been five if they had some knowledgeable people on tech support. Other Thoughts: Download the Manual and do a find on parts you need to find out about.

Pros: Fast, with a cool looking BIOS and relatively easy layout for inserting cards, memory, etc. Lots of great utilities. Cons: Before I get to the entire story let it be known that Flashing to the latest BIO resulted in my C drive (a Samsung SSD 850 Pro) not being seen. Boot Manager only sees my DVD drive and my RAID 1 (mirror) which is my E drive. When I called Technical Support, I was rudely asked 'Why did you update the BIOS? That wasn't very smart, was it?'

Are you serious! When I asked for his name and a supervisor he responded with vulgar language and hung up on me. Now onto the entire story. DISASTROUS Technical Support. The manual was not clear about certain things (especially in regards to RAID) so when I called Technical support I found reps who were reading from scripts and unable to understand certain basic computer setups.

Especially in regards to RAID. They did not understand the SATA EXPRESS ports on the MB and insisted they could not use used for two drives in RAID and that they could not even hold more than one SATA drive. I could go on and on with this. Once it became clear I needed to talk to someone with more knowledge I asked for a supervisor and was repeatedly told NO. They would simply refuse. One eventually took my information and stated they would have a supervisor call me back that day.

None every did. I ended up calling the Corporate Office and begged for someone to find me anyone with some knowledge. Eventually they did and that person then got me to someone who was at least as knowledgeable as I.

But he could not answer any of my more complicated questions and said he would have to have someone call me back. That call never came. So I had to go online and ask around. Eventually I found the answers I needed and went ahead and set up the BIOS and then installed Windows 7. It went smoothly. The only issue was in inability to PCI-e ports 3 & 4 and an inability to have my mouse work when plugged into ANY of the rear USB 2.0 ports. The mouse would stutter and hang.

Not acceptable (I tried four difference, two being wired, two wireless and in all the ports). My mouse only worked properly when plugged into the front USB 2.0 port. I knew it was a MB issue because the mouse also acted funny in the BIOS. An ASUS rep advised me to update the BIOS. And as I already wrote above, it was a disaster.

Now I have no CB from a Supervisor and no working computer. I wish I had stayed with my 4 year old MSI MB based system. It was stable and their tecnical support reps were at least decent.

Med-trans V11.5 Asus Usb 64gb For Mac

Shuttle, Gigabyte and others all have decent tech support. ASUS has been a disaster. I am disgusted by this treatment and now have to take my computer apart and find another motherboard. Other Thoughts: I have built a dozen computers in my time and never dealt with anything like this. Neither have I ever dealt with such rude, disconnected and technically deficient tech support reps. I have tried for over one entire week on a daily basis to speak to someone higher than the basic ASUS tech. It is impossible.

An no supervisor has ever called me back, despite promises made. AVOID AT AL COSTS. Pros: I like this Motherboard greatly. I wanted a Motherboard with a built-in WiFi/Bluetooth so I won't have to download any driver for it to initially work.

Med-transfer V11.5 Asus Usb 64gb For Mac

In addition, I also like Asus' 'USB Bios Flashback' immensely. I had MSI Z97 Gaming 7 Motherboard and the Bios crashed so I have to pay money to ship it to MSI's HQ to get it replaced under warranty and wait to until I receive it back- the process took about two weeks. Well, I won't have to worry about that anymore with Asus' USB Bios Flashback. Cons: I wish the antenna that comes along with the Motherboard was bigger so if can pick up a stronger signal.other than that, that's it. Other Thoughts: This is a great Motherboard that pretty much can't be 'bricked' and it's future-proof with the USB 3.1 ports. Pros: Pros Easy to set up.

Really easy to optimize using 5 way All Features work flawlessly. Love the fan options on the motherboard Not muchj needed in skill, just plug the memory, power supply, and Cpu in hook up your keyboard and network and turn it on. It configures everything for you. What a leap forward in desktop boards. I am really happy with this purchase Cons: The wi fi antenna cable should be a lot longer.

Other Thoughts: Do your homework with ordering memory. Pick the brand of memory you like and go to their website and put in the motherboard you intend on using.

It will give you all the options for memory. Do the same thing with your power supply. CPU's are the next thing, check to make sure that the Cpu you order has the right socket type.
