Pros: Works very well. As an architecture student, I already have the hard drive at half capacity and it's been treating me well so far. Pros: 1 quiet 2 runs cool 3 small size I tested the transfer speeds, and the unit chugs along nicely at 25-35 mbs, when plugged into a USB 3 port. If you really need more than that, cough up the $$$ and get an external SSD. Cons: None, really, despite the whining from some people about the supplied USB 3.0 cable (see below). Other Thoughts: The unit comes with a 18-inch USB 3.0 cable (specifically, a USB 3.0 A Male to Micro B Male Cable M-M), Chances are pretty good you don't have a spare cable of this particular 'flavor' lying around, so you'd be advised to buy yourself a couple (from NewEgg, or course), just as backups, or because you find that 18-inches for the supplied cable doesn't suit/fit your setup. Pros: Fast, easy to use, silent Cons: Cable is a bit short (-1 egg) Other Thoughts: Works exactly as you'd expect it to. Plug it in, Win7 recognizes it, and you're operational in seconds. USB3 can be a bit picky.

I have two USB 3.0 ports on my enclosure that connect to my Asus motherboard with dedicated cables and this drive works reliably with one but not the other. If you have trouble with USB 3.0 reliability, try a different port before you blame the device. Subtracting one egg due to the shortness of the cable that is supplied with this drive. It's OK but makes it a bit awkward to use with a tower on the floor.

Also: To those complaining about the 'non-standard USB connector' on the drive, this IS a standard connector. It's the standard.USB 3.0. micro connector. Pros: Quality materials and construction. Literally 'pocket sized'.

I was under the impression that manufacturers had left this archaic practice behind in a cooperative effort to move toward ubiquitous data cabling (shnApple being the exception, of course). The connector itself isn't shoddy, just don't lose it because you won't be able reach for the nearest USB mini or micro to use the drive. Other Thoughts: I know I ripped on Seagate about the USB, but I can also understand their position potentially being to force consumers to use that cable because they want to ensure specified USB3 transfer rates and correct voltage supply in order to avoid the customer service nightmare that would ensue from thousands of people using whatever cheap cable they happen to have lying around.

So, in that case I give Seagate a knowing shrug.

The Good The fast and affordable Seagate Backup Plus/Slim has the highest capacity of any portable drive. The drive includes helpful backup software and a free two-year 200GB subscription to Microsoft OneDrive online storage. The Bad The two-year warranty is short and there's no security option to protect the contents of the drive against unauthorized access. The Bottom Line Fast and affordable, the Seagate Backup Plus/Slim is one of the best deals on the market if you want want lots of storage space on the go.
